Immigration program changes

Immigration program changes

There are some big changes implemented at the end of Summer to the immigration programs.

The Canadian immigration program Express Entry is linked to the provincial nomination programs. Each of the 11 provincial nominations programs in Canada now has at least one so-called "extended nomination" stream that allows candidates to submit documents to the federal Express Entry level.

The provincial nomination received through the category/stream of immigration associated with the Express Entry adds an additional 600 points to the candidates in the Express Entry database. Additional points help applicants to climb in the Express Entry database above and receive an invitation for an application (ITA) for permanent residence in Canada.

Provincial nomination programs for Canada will be responsible for more than 30% of planned economic immigration to Canada in 2018.

In our next article, we will address each province immigration changes individually and discuss the differences from province to province.
