The goal of the course is to increase staff effectiveness by enhancing the knowledge and skills in trauma-informed debriefing, interviewing, and support.

Who Should Attend?
The course is intended for community workers, counsellors, therapists who work with survivors of sexual, physical, emotional abuse, and/or alcohol/drug abuse and seeking hands-on skills.

General Course Topics:
• Definitions, cultural considerations, ethical guidelines, and professional boundaries in trauma work
• Managing triggers and triggering situations
• Post-Traumatic Stress symptoms and culturally relevant supportive approaches
• Debriefing and listening to trauma with individuals, groups, and in traditional formats (Circles, etc.)
• Working with resistance and reluctance
• Addressing self-medication by drugs or alcohol, and other coping strategies
• Introduction to assessment, reporting, advocacy and documentation
• Closing and containing triggers, reaction, and/or overwhelming emotions
• Effective self-care strategies and effective self-care plans

Accreditation and Certification:
Upon successful completion of the course, the participants will receive a Certificate of Completion from Prairie Region Centre for Focusing and Complex Trauma (PRCF).
