International cannabis tourism in Canada

Starting October 17th of 2018 marijuana is legal to grow, sell and to buy throughout Canada. Doesn’t matter if you are using it or not, cannabis is coming, it is already here and as of today, it is sold in your local stores and online.

Businesses across the country, from growers and retailers to the tech and tourism sectors, got ready to reap a windfall from legal marijuana. Many new job positions were opened in information area, business, medical and tourism, that last expected to expand greatly and bring more tourists to visit Canada.

Cannabis tour companies say the prohibition of promotion is hindering their businesses. The rules around what is and what isn’t allowed remain unclear when it comes to how they market their business. The initial business plan was to bring participants to storefronts to buy before partaking in an activity. But since things are moving slowly in the province, business has been slow.

As well, vape lounges or cafes, which are popular in Amsterdam, aren’t currently legal in any province, but that may change in the future. One of the major issues is promotional restrictions, says Trina Fraser, a leading cannabis lawyer in Canada.

Our Go204 team decided to visit one of the legal stores and see for ourselves the new kind of stores in Canada. Delta 9 Cannabis is still seeing lines of customers outside the doors six months after legalization.
