On Sunday, the triathlon which raises money for the homeless took place in the Forks.
Despite a rather frosty day, many residents of the city went outside to take part in the triathlon and to contribute to helping the homeless people of the city.
Beat the Cold participants had to run, bike and skate. Each section was 5 km long. All funds raised were given to 1JustCity's Just a Warm Sleep emergency warming centre.
The organizer of the triathlon said he was amazed that so many people decided to take part in the event. Most of them were engaged in similar sports events for the first time and did not have physical training before.
"It's really attracted quite the population of people who are out here wanting to help a good cause," Rempel said.
At the end of the day, it turned out that the triathlon was able to raise about $10,000 for the centre. This money will help to ensure the full-fledged work of the center at least until the end of the cold season.
"We're out here for one hour, meanwhile there're people who have to walk all night long just to stay warm and they don't have the option of going inside," Rempel said.
Marc Fournier, 51 won the triathlon. His spent 46 minutes to overcome all three sections.
"It's great that we have places for homeless people to stay," Fournier said after the finished Beat the Cold.
