Recently more and more thefts and other crimes happened in Winnipeg. As per Winnipeg Police this year they have seen a spike of crime in the city.
Another theft happened on Friday, October 19th, but only the next day the coach realized what had happened. Thieves have broken into and stolen from a storage shed at a baseball field in Elmwood (Koskie Field), taking, among other things, dozens of aluminum bats. Elmwood Giants Baseball Club board member Al Kinley says the bats are part of a youth baseball program.
"We call it Learn to Play, for basically eight and under. We had about 50 bats sitting in a couple bins there... and the aluminum bats were all gone, every one of them," said Kinley. He says a couple of pitching machines are also missing (one heavier, older pitching machine was left laying in the field), along with some catcher's masks and a brand-new stand-up batting screen, Kinley said.
Kinley says the bats that were taken have the Elmwood Giants decal on them. Some kids took bats home for the winter, so those bats have been saved.
It is really shocking what criminals decide to take these days, it looks like they will take anything, even completely useless things. They do not care where to steal and who they are stealing from, taking game equipment from little kids didn’t bother thieves at all.
As of now the police and insurance reports were filed, the investigation still continues, so far no leads disclosed by police. Investigation officers checking security cameras in the area for possible leads for thieves or their vehicle identification.
