A nurse was attacked by a man who was probably on meth at Winnipeg’s Grace Hospital On Friday night.
The Manitoba Nurses Union is sure that that was not the first incident. They reported that a man hit a woman in the face.
According to official data, the number of patients on meth that got to the city hospitals has increased by more than 1000 times. This leads to increased danger for all hospital workers, especially for nurses.
Such patients usually have psychosis and various other mental disorders, so that they can be dangerous for people around them. This problem is relevant not only for Winnipeg but the province as a whole. The quantity of complaints from medical personnel has grown very much.
The city police also reported that the number of people who use meth grows every day. They said they will do their best to reduce the number of drugs on the street and to increase the patrolling of the city.
The Winnipeg Regional Health Authority informed that there is a security program to lower the level of violence in medical institutions. Hospital guards have the right to resort to force in cases where patients behave inadequately or pose a threat to anyone around them, including medical personnel.
Besides that, the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority created a program together with the Manitoba Nurses Union. This program aims to reduce violence and protect women from attacks in their workplaces where they provide medical care to patients.
