At the annual assembly, the Métis federation decided to appeal to the court because of the refusal to pay the promised amount of money.
In the summer of 2017, the province decided to allocate $67 million to the Manitoba Métis Federation. However, recently it became known that Premier Brian Pallister said the payment will not be made.
Immediately after that statement was made, the president of the Métis Federation informed that he requires an apology from the prime minister. He also added that their people demand fair and respectful attitude.
The federation president was very upset by the situation and the news he heard, and he said that the rejection of promised payments would lead to litigation. His main goals are justice and respect from the acting government.
Annual General Assembly of the Manitoba Métis Federation was help from 21 to 23 September and it took place in Winnipeg. More than 3,000 people found the time to come and to discuss all the important and actual problems that their federation is currently facing.
The decision to resort to court assistance was made MMF ministers Jack Park and Anita Campbell.
