Protection for Persons in Care Office conducted an investigation and identified 12 cases of mistreatment in Lions Prairie Manor.
The cause for this investigation were numerous complaints received in 2016 and 2017. In total 21 complaints were examined and 17 of them were found to be real. 12 complaints were classified as cases of patient mistreatment.
The result of this investigation was the imposition of restrictions on this institution, which is managed by Southern Health-Santé Sud. A report with details of the investigation and specific complaints can not be made public due to the existing law.
The imposed restrictions are that this institution can not accept new residents and must maintain full reporting for the Protection for Persons in Care Office within 100 days. To remove these restrictions, the seniors home should comply with 7 mandatory recommendations.
All employees of this institution need to receive special education by December 18 and prove that they have the necessary skills for caring for the elderly. Particularly important aspects include compliance with the personal care plan for the patient, cleaning in the allotted time and speed and timeliness of the provision of services.
Manitoba’s Health, Seniors and Active Living Minister Cameron Friesen personally monitors the progress of the audit. He stressed that it was very important and necessary to take such measures.
